CUSHING — The crowd hearing President Barack Obama's energy strategy comments at a pipe yard outside Cushing Thursday came by invitation only.
But in Cushing, groups gathered to present their own agendas, hoping to catch the president's eye as his motorcade passed.
Supporters waved signs at a highway intersection where Obama's parade of black Chevrolets passed en route from the airport to the pipe yard.
Members of the Americans For Prosperity waved signs calling for construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
In Cushing's Memorial Park, members of Native American tribes gathered to protest the Keystone XL and its route from Cushing south, which protesters contend will disturb sacred tribal burial grounds.
Environmentalists also made a showing in Cushing, opposing the Keystone pipeline.
