ENID, Okla. —
Mr. and Mrs. Ansel Cowan celebrated their 71st anniversary Friday, January 25, 2013, at their home at Golden Oaks. Cards may be sent to 5801 N. Oakwood Rd, D-102W, Enid, OK 73703.
In 1942, Ansel Cowan Jr., of Snyder, wed Margaret Marie Parker at the home of her parents, Dr. H.G. and Olive Parker, of Douglas.
At the time, she was completing her B.A. in home economics at then-Oklahoma A&M, and he was preparing to enter the Army Air Corps. He served for two years as a gunner instructor and briefly was self-employed before beginning a 25-year career with Halliburton Co.
After his retirement, Ansel taught diesel mechanics for 15 years at the vocational school in Robertsdale, Ala. During those years, the couple made numerous mission trips to Canada, Hawaii and Jamaica. The Cowans lived in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama before their return to Oklahoma in 2002, to reside at the Golden Oaks Village community. They are members of First Baptist Church of Enid.
Their children are Howard and Sue Cowan of Lubbock, Texas; Geoffrey and Steffi Cowan of Ponca City; and Margie Cowan, currently in Enid. They have five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
