Mr. and Mrs. Galen Box will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a come-and-go reception for family and friends 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Fairview. Cards may be sent to 308 North 4th St., Fairview, OK 73737.
Galen Box and Sharon Shelton were married Nov. 22, 1963, in Headrick, Okla.
Galen worked for Coca-Cola, Fairmont Foods and United Supermarket in Clinton and Altus from 1963 to 1972. From 1972 to 1975, he worked for United Supermarket and Ideal Grocery in Enid, as a meat cutter, before being transferred to Fairview with Ideal Grocery. From 1975 to 1988, he worked for Ideal Grocery and Karl’s Grocery in Fairview. In 1988, he went to work for the Oklahoma State Department of Transportation in Fairview, retiring from ODOT in 2003.
Sharon worked for Advance Meat Co. in Enid from 1973 to 1975. From 1978 to 1990, she worked for TG&Y in Fairview as a softline floor manager. She then worked for Alco Retail from 1990 to 2000, as a softline group manager, retiring in 2000. Sharon also has been an Avon Representative for the past 24 years.
Galen and Sharon are both actively involved at First Baptist Church of Fairview, where Galen teaches the Adult 5 Sunday school class and serves as deacon.
They also are involved with the Fairview Senior Citizens organization. Galen also serves as a mentor for Fairview Elementary School.
Galen and Sharon have been team captains for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life events in Fairview.
Their children are Brian Box and wife Luanna, and Allen Box and wife Tricia, all of Edmond, Okla., and Gaylena Sturgill and husband Eric, Shawnee, Okla. They have seven grandchildren.
