Mr. and Mrs. Orvil Milam will celebrate their 60th anniversary with a come-and-go reception for family and friends 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church. Cards may be sent to P.O. Box 358, Waukomis, OK 73773.
Orvil Milam and Velma Chapman were married June 24, 1953, at Waukomis Methodist Church on Velma’s 16th birthday.
They have made their home in Waukomis since Orvil served in the Army and the Korean War.
Following his honorable discharge, he worked at Gold Spot Dairy and Bond Bakery. In the 1970s, he owned and operated Milam Tire and Trucking Co. He also worked for Whittenburg Co., Pollard Services and Brent Tank Truckers. Since July 1983, he has worked for Kingfisher County District 2, where he continues to work today.
In 1985, Orvil was ordained as a Southern Baptist minister. Together, they pastored Freedom Baptist Church in Billings and later First Baptist Church of Hunter. He currently serves as a supply preacher, as needed.
Velma is a homemaker. She has worked at Gold Spot Dairy and Three Towers Restaurant.
They are members of Trinity Baptist Church, Enid.
Their children are the Rev. Rick Milam and wife Angie of Enid, and Kathy and Dr. Watson Edmond, and Tim and Lenee Milam, all of Waukomis. They have 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one deceased great-granddaughter.
