Conservation filing period opens soon

ENID, Okla. — The filing period for Oklahoma conservation district board seats is Wednesday through May 14.

Oklahoma has 87 local conservation district boards. Local conservation district boards are made up of five individuals who set the priorities for the conservation districts. Three members are elected by registered voters within the district, and two are appointed by Oklahoma Conservation Commission upon recommendation by the local board.

In order for residents to have their names placed on the official ballot for election, they must fill out and submit a notification and declaration of candidacy form. The form can be found on the commission’s website at http://go.usa.gov/TjBJ or at local offices.

To be eligible, a person must be a registered voter in within the boundaries of the conservation district and must have entered or will enter into a cooperator agreement with the local conservation district.

The conservation district director election is scheduled for June 4.
