Garber FFA members place at OYE

ENID, Okla. — Garber FFA members exhibited livestock at the 2013 Oklahoma Youth Expo in Oklahoma City on March 15-26.

Results were:

Breeding gilts — Emilee Hughes, Class 2 (Duroc) and Class 2 (Spot); Jessica Cinnamon, Class 2 (Spot); Mason Monsees, Class 20 (Cross); and Madison Deeds, Class 3 (Duroc) and Class 3 (Duroc).

Market hogs — Braden Alwert, Class 2 (Berk).

Market lambs — Tyler Schnaithman, Class 4 (Cross), third place, and Class 10 (Cross), seventh place; and Kellan Hostetler, Class 4 (Cross).

Doe goats — Layton Heitfeld, Class 9 and Class 12; Kami Oller, Class 16, sixth overall doe; Katie Allen, Class 2, seventh place, and Class 3, 10th place; and Sierra Sumner, Class 11, 11th place.

Wether goats — Braden Schovanec, Class 14, first place and reserve Division 4 champion, respective class, third, and respective class, third; Garret Heinrich, Class 8, 15th place; and Halie Schovanec, Class 2, first place, Division I champion, reserve grand champion, respective class, fourth place, and respective class, seventh place.

Heifers — Kaley Semrad, Class 22 (Hereford), first place and Class 3 (Chianina), second place; Jarred Strate, Class 3 (Angus), third place, and Class 4 (Angus), fourth place; Brooke Wessels, Class 3 (Chianina), third place, and Class 5 (Chianina), eighth place; Braden Schovanec, Class 2 (Simmental Influence), first place and reserve breed champion; Madison Deeds, Class 4 (Lemi-Flex), second place, and Class 6 (Commercial), fifth place; and Halie Schovanec, Class 13 (Hereford), first place.

Market steers — Jarred Strate, Class 4 (Maine Anjou), fourth place.

Tyler Schnaithman, Braden Schovanec and Halie Schovanec qualified for the 2013 Oklahoma Youth Expo Sale of Champions.

Garber FFA members Baylee Mount, Cameron Cinnamon and Halie Schovanec attended the Northwestern Oklahoma State University speech contest in Alva on April 4.  Schovanec placed third in eighth grade agricultural exploration.

On April 9, FFA members Tyler Schnaithman, Baylee Mount and Halie Schovanec competed in the Jenks FFA speech contest. Schnaithman placed first in extemporaneous, and Schovanec placed first in eighth-grade agricultural exploration.

On April 11, Tyler Schnaithman, Kellan Hostetler, Riley Pearce, Jessica Cinnamon, Cameron Cinnamon, Baylee Mount, Madison Deeds and Halie Schovanec attended the Cashion FFA speech contest. Schnaithman placed first in extemporaneous and Schovanec placed first in eighth-grade agricultural exploration.

The Garber FFA shop team competed in the NWOSU interscholastics in Alva on April 5. Participants were Jarred Strate, Zac Fee, Hunter Davidson and Garret Heinrich. They placed fourth.
