Garber FFA chapter leaders attend retreat

GARBER, Okla. — Garber FFA officers Jarred Strate, Braden Schovanec, Kellan Hostetler, Daniel Parks, Garret Heinrich, Jessica Cinnamon and Layton Heitfeld participated in an annual officer retreat Aug. 9 in Oklahoma City.

They started off the day going to Elevation Trampoline Plaza to have some fun playing basketball, dodge ball and just having fun on the trampolines. After they finished, they went to Pole Position Raceway where they competed in two high-performance go-cart races.

Garber FFA held the 2013 eighth-grade FFA leadership camp on Aug. 17.

Forty students from six chapters attended. The camp was put on by Garber FFA officers Jarred Strate, Braden Schovanec, Kellan Hostetler, Garret Heinrich, Jessica Cinnamon, Layton Heitfeld and Kami Oller, as well as many Garber FFA members.

State FFA officers Steven Vekony, president, and Garrett Reed, northeast district vice president, also attended the camp. This year’s theme was “Be The Change.”

The camp gave eighth-grade FFA students the opportunity to learn more about FFA and ways to get involved in the organization. The eighth-graders participated in small groups where leadership skills were taught. Each group was led by a Garber FFA officer, and the opportunity workshops were led by two Garber FFA officers. The general sessions and the dodge ball tournament were taught and attended by all the participants.

Garber FFA member Kami Oller competed in a jackpot show at Pryor on Aug. 10.

Her placings were first in Class 2, first in Class 3, first in Class 5 and third in Class 5 with her does. Her wether goat was grand champion.

Bees are venturing out to visit the new flowers. Keep a close watch on your garden. Often, helpful pest-destroying insects are out, getting ready to work for you, also. These, and the bees helpfully pollinating flowers, shouldn’t be discouraged by the undiscriminating spraying of insecticides.
