Waynoka members celebrate FFA Week

ENID, Okla. — The week of Feb. 15-22, Waynoka FFA National FFA Week.  

On Monday, members went to the elementary classrooms and talked with the younger students about FFA and agriculture.

On Tuesday evening, the FFA hosted a parents’ appreciation supper to thank parents for all their support. On Wednesday, FFA members started the day bright and early to prepare a great breakfast for the Waynoka teachers. Then Wednesday afternoon, they hosted an Ag Olympics that entertained the whole school. Each officer put together a three-person team that competed for the title. The Ag Olympics included events such as round bale pushing, post driving, egg toss and calf roping.  

On Thursday morning, the officers traveled to Woodward to be on K101.1 radio at 7 a.m. to promote FFA Week to the surrounding communities. Then, for the rest of Thursday everyone wore the FFA colors of blue and gold. They finished the week on Sunday with the FFA attending church together at the Methodist church.



Garber students place

in livestock show

The Garber Local Livestock Show was Feb. 17. There were many FFA and 4-H members who exhibited their animals at the show.

Placings were:



Swine



Chester — Class one, first place, Madison Deeds. Class two, first place, Cassidy Stowers; second place, Shelbi Prince; and third place, Tanner Butcher. Champion Chester went to Madison Deeds, and reserve champion to Cassidy Sowers.

Duroc — Class one, first place, Emilee Hughes; and second place, Josh Beebe. Class two, first place, Madison Deeds; and second place, Shelbi Prince. Class three, first place, Summer Prince. Emilee Hughes received champion Duroc, and Summer Prince received reserve champion Duroc.

Hampshire — champion Hamp was received by Emilee Hughes, and reserve was received by Emily Cinnamon.

Poland — Class one, first place, Jenni Beebe. Class two, first place, O’Ryan Hatch; second place, Jessica Cinnamon; and third place, Devin Dalton. Class three, first place, Summer Prince; second place, Adler Berkenbile; and third place, Branna Deeds. Class four, first place, Shelbi Prince; and second place, Wyatt Spangler. Champion Poland went to O’Ryan Hatch, and reserve went to Summer Prince.

Spot — Class one, first place, Jacob Bebee. Class two, first place, Jordan Carter; second place, Adler Berkenbile; and third place, Jessica Cinnamon. Class three, first place, Maci Carter; and second place, Madison Deeds. Class four, first place, Errika Hughes; second place, Lakan Light; and third place, Jordan Carter. Champion Spot was exhibited by Errika Hughes, and reserve by Jordan Carter.

Yorkshire — champion was exhibited by Maci Carter, and reserve champion was exhibited by Brianna Deeds.

Cross — Class one,— first place, Emilee Hughes; and second place, Braden Alwert. Class two, first place, Emilee Cinnamon. Class three, first place, Lakan Light. Champion Cross went to Lakan Light, and reserve to Emilee Hughes.

Grand champion market swine was exhibited by Lakan Light. Reserve champion market swine was exhibited by Summer Prince. The 2014 champion junior showman was Maci Carter, and champion senior showman was Emilee Hughes.



Sheep



Hampshire — Class one, first place, Damon Malaska. Class two, first place, Gunner Sharp. Class three, first place, Braden Schovanec; and second place, Kellan Hostetler. Champion Hamp was exhibited by Braden Schovanec, and reserve by Damon Malaska.

Natural — champion was shown by Braden Schovanec.

Suffolk — champion was shown by Gunner Sharp, reserve champion by Damon Malaska.

Cross — Class one, first place, Damon Malaska. Class two, first place, Gunner Sharp. Class three, first place, Kellan Hostetler. Champion cross was exhibited by Gunner Sharp, and reserve by Kellan Hostetler.

Grand champion lamb was exhibited by Braden Schovanec, and reserve grand champion by Gunner Sharp. The 2014 champion junior showman was Gunner Sharp. The champion senior showman was Braden Schovanec.



Goats



Does — Division one, champion, Kami Oller; reserve champion, Katie Allen; and third place, Sierra Sumner. Division two, champion, Summer Prince; and reserve champion, Shelbi Prince. Division three, champion, and reserve champion, Koda Oller; and  third place, Brooklan Light. Grand and reserve champion doe goats were exhibited by Koda Oller.

Wethers — Division one, champion, Hannah Herzer. Division two, champion, Carson Schovanec; and reserve champion, Tori Johnson. Division three, champion, Halie Schovanec and reserve champion, Garret Heinrich. The grand champion wether goat was exhibited by Halie Schovanec. Reserve grand champion wether goat was exhibited by Carson Schovanec. Koda Oller received 2014 champion junior showman, and Kami Oller received champion senior showman.



Heifers



Champion Angus was shown by Jarred Strate. Champion Chinina  was shown by Brooke Wessels. Champion Maintainer  was shown by Brooke Wessels. Class one Commercial, first place, Tyer Hatch; and second place, Brooke Wessels. Class two Commercial, first place, Madison Deeds. Champion Commercial was shown by Tyler Hatch, and reserve champion by Madison Deeds. The grand champion heifer was Brooke Wessels’s Chinina, and the reserve grand heifer was Jarred Strate’s Angus.



Steers



Grand champion and also champion Hereford was shown by Caleb Hatch. Reserve grand champion market steer and champion Mini-Hereford was shown by Baylee Wessels. Champion junior neef showman was received by Caleb Hatch. Champion senior beef showman was Jarred Strate.
