On Sept. 13, members of the Alva livestock judging team went to the Oklahoma State Fair to compete.
The contest consisted of eight classes of goats, cattle, pigs and lambs. Questions were asked on two of the classes. Junior contestants fared well, with Cathy Mapes winning high individual in Junior 4-H, where she received a jacket and plaque. The junior 4-H team of Mapes, Cole Koppitz, Julie Owen and Wyatt Radford received fourth in the competition.
Having to move up a division in the competition from last year, the senior FFA team also received fourth. This team consisted of Tanner Burton, Kory Dietz, Courtney Mapes and Traci Owen. Individual placers were Dietz, fifth, and Courtney Mapes, eighth. Other individual competitors from Alva were Terrill Burton, Tyler Burton, Dakota Nusser and Garrett Radford.
Two members of the Alva 4-H and FFA attended the livestock show in Oklahoma City. Kaden Slater and Kolby Slater took three sheep and a pig. Kaden Slater received sixth with his cross lamb and first with his Shropshire lamb. Kolby Slater received third with his Hampshire pig and sixth with his cross lamb.
