ENID, Okla. —
The Alva 4-H Livestock Judging Team was the high-scoring team at the 2013 State Fair of Oklahoma Livestock Judging Contest.
The team of Kory Dietz, Tanner Burton, Courtney Mapes and Traci Owen won the senior 4-H division in the competition hosted by Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee.
The Alva FFA junior team of Terrill Burton, Ridge Hughbanks, Cathy Mapes and Julie Owen received sixth place in the junior division of the contest. Other FFA members participating were Tyler Burton, Cole Koppitz and Wyatt Radford.
Competing for the first time at the State Fair of Oklahoma contest were Alva junior 4-H members Cooper Sneary, Kaden Slater, Tara Owen, Colby Mackey and Garrett Radford.
The State Fair of Oklahoma Livestock Judging Contest was open to FFA and 4-H students across the state. This year, close to 800 youth participated.
The Alva judging teams will compete at the Tulsa State Fair Livestock Judging Contest the first of October. The teams have been working hard over the last few months to practice for the upcoming national livestock evaluation contest the end of October. Kory Dietz, Tanner Burton, Courtney Mapes and Traci Owen will represent the state in Louisville, Ky., at the National FFA Livestock Evaluation Contest. The team of Terrill Burton, Tyler Burton, Dakota Nusser and Cathy Mapes will compete in the American Royal National Contest in Kansas City.
