FSA reception planned

ENID, Okla. — Garfield County USDA-Farm Service Agency is having a retirement reception for Vicki Frey and Karen Gilbert on Friday.

The reception will be 1-4 p.m. in the conference room at Farm Service Agency, 1216 W. Willow. Cake and punch will be served, and a money tree has been set up for Frey and Gilbert.

Gilbert has worked for FSA for 27 years, starting in 1986 — 13 years in Grant County and 14 years in Garfield County. She has taken care of therapeutic foster children for the last 13 years and has more than 28 children in her home.

Gilbert is moving to Minneapolis, Minn., to be closer to her son and his family and will work for ProAg.

Her great-grandpfather, Charles Dark, homesteaded one mile south of the intersection of Oklahoma 132 and Oklahoma 11 on the east side. Her Grandfather and Grandmother Dark lived on the farm where her mother, Donis June Dark, was born and raised. Gilbert has lived in Medford for 29 years.  

Frey has worked for FSA for 22 years, starting in 1990. She started with two years in Alfalfa County, and 221⁄2 years in Garfield County.

She is married to Larry Frey, civil engineer technician for NRCS, and has two children.

She plans to be a stay-at-home mom for her son, Erick. Frey grew up on a farm in Helena. Her father, Virgil Thorp, and mother, Marilyn, also are farmers in Helena area.
