Fairview FFA students attend convention

Twelve Fairview FFA members recently attended the National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis.

Several members receive awards.

Chacey Schoeppel competed in the job interview career development event and was named the national winner. Schoeppel’s contest consisted of a job application, resume, telephone interview and a face-to-face interview. Schoeppel received a $1,000 scholarship.

Kela Kelln received a $1,000 scholarship for her agri-entrepreneurship program. She was one of 10 national finalists. She also was a finalist in the specialty animal production proficiency award area. She received $500 for this award.

Justin Bedwell was a finalist in the diversified horticulture placement proficiency award area. Bedwell received $500 for this award and was recognized on stage.

Meagan Rhodes, Paige Van Meter, Madison McGolden, Ashlyn Spradlin and Cody Slater represented Oklahoma in agricultural communications CDE. The team placed fifth overall and received a gold emblem. Rhodes, Van Meter, McGolden and Spradlin received a gold emblem for their individual placings. Slater received a bronze emblem.  

Deavon Wedel, Cassie Whiteneck, Dalton Pannel and Tara Burchfield represented Oklahoma in the food science and technology CDE. Whiteneck was sixth-high individual and received a gold emblem. Pannel received a gold emblem, Burchfield received a silver emblem, and Wedel received a bronze emblem. Overall, the team received a silver emblem.

Lance Rhodes received his American FFA Degree at the eighth general session. The American FFA Degree is the highest award an FFA member can receive.

Fred Slater received his honorary American FFA Degree at the convention. This is the highest award the FFA can bestow upon a supporter.

Fairview FFA consists of 80 members and is advised by Mindi Clark and Vince McGolden.
