Tractor, machinery certification class set

May 04, 2008 12:32 am

Garfield County Extension Service will hold its annual tractor and machinery operator certification program on June 3-4.
The classes will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The training is for youths 14-16 years of age and who will be employed on the farm.
Participants must attend all classes and pass a written exam and a driving exam.
Federal law states youths under 16 years of age cannot be employed in agriculture in an occupation the secretary of labor declares to be particularly hazardous unless the child is employed by his or her parents.
An exception to this is for 14- and 15-year-olds who have completed the tractor and machinery operation program. The cost of the program is $35.
To register, call Garfield County Extension Center at 237-1228 for a registration form. Class size is limited.
